Meeting
of Peace and Social Concerns Committee, 12/7/2015
Present: Dan G, George M, Carol L, Frank G, Roger C
1. Dan
will find out if Eric wants to stay on the committee.
2. Roger will see if he can do letter writing on
Saturday Dec 12 during the “crafting” event.
3. Roger
will be sure to thank the couple who presented the 11:40 hour on November 29.
4. Roger
will ask Jane J if she could clerk our meeting on January 4.
5. We
agreed on a simple prolog for the 2010 statement: “In light of recent
anti-Muslim expressions Mt Toby Friends would like to reiterate the statement
which we adopted in 2010….”
6. Frank
will send out his announcement about a December 11 event on the PSC listserv.
(To send a notice to the listserv, it is sent as email to
mtpsc@lists.riseup.net.)
7. Roger
will see if there is a report available from the meeting about refugees, held
last Saturday at the Northampton Meeting.
8. We
hope that somebody from MtToby can go to the refugee
meeting on January 9 at CBI in Northampton (info at bit.ly/1PxmTTS) Roger will use the listserv to encourage
people to go to this meeting and help our committee understand the refugee
settlement issue by bringing back a report from the meeting.
9. Frank
told us of an idea of Dorothy Cresswell, who is wearing
a headscarf to show solidarity with Muslims.
He intends to put an article in the Newsletter about it. He told us that
there will be an 11:40 on April 24, about ION.
10. Frank
brought a calendar which shows holidays of many religious traditions, and we
recommend that it be posted in the meetinghouse. Roger will bring this as a proposal to the
Clerk and suggest that this be not an announcement, but a discussion in the meeting
for business.
11. We
agreed to donate $25 for the Human Rights Day celebration from our committee’s
budget.
12. Dan
read the statement about global warming which had been created by Dan, Carol,
and Will S. We approved the statement
and will propose that the meeting adopt it, and then send it to newspapers and our
local politicians. Roger will find out
how to publicize it in Quaker Earthcare Witness. Dan
will send it to Andy tonight, for the December meeting for business, and he will
read it at that meeting.
13. Diane
has a film for our series, but Roger has not yet reviewed it. We will not present a film in December since
it is a month overfilled with events.
14. We
will wait until her health permits, to hear from Beth about her idea mentioned
in previous minutes.
15. Roger
will let Friends, particularly those not on our committee,
know that we are open to supporting their leadings. We encourage such contact.
16. We
closed with thanks to Carol for clerking tonight and with a time of silence.
